Sightseeing on Komodo Island
The tiny
islands of Komodo and Rinca, in eastern Nusa Tenggara, form the
Komodo National Park, the only place in the world where the gigantic
Komodo
dragon
is found.
The dragon is the largest lizard, and one of the oldest and rarest of reptiles. Komodo island is dry and hilly, but Rinca is less barren and there is plenty of other wildlife such as monkeys, water buffalo and deer.
On Komodo Island there are organised dragon spotting walks, and people can watch the gory sight of the dragons feeding. On Rinca there are no organised feeding places, and it is harder to spot the dragons.
There are ferries to Komodo Island from Sumbawa and Flores, but it is necessary to hire a boat to get to Rinca.
