Thailand is a hot country, and traditionally, people have carried a fan with which to fan themselves. Fan-making and decorating is an art in Thailand. Some hand-held fans are woven palm leaves and do not fold up. Other fans open up for use and fold up when not in use.
The
spokes of the folding fans are made of bamboo and are covered
with a semi-circle of painted silk or paper. The paper fans are
made with handmade paper made from mulberry leaves.

Pictures are hand painted on the paper or silk fans.
