On land,
eared seals and sea lions rotate their hind flippers to face forwards
to use them like a foot, and use their front flippers to prop
themselves up. This means they are quite agile on land and can
propel themselves forward with some speed.
They
have an outside ear flap, which is how they get their name. However,
the ear flap is very small so that it does not slow them down
in the water.
