Earless seals

Earless seals have quite small flippers that are of little use for movement on land. The hind, or back, flippers of earless seals face towards the back and do not rotate. This makes the seals very awkward on land. They flex their bodies and hop along. However, on snow and ice they can move very fast.

They do not have an outside ear flap, just the ear opening, so their heads look smooth as though they have no ears.
