Sailing

There are sailing events for many different kinds of boat. Dinghy, skiff and keelboat are the names of three kinds.

Some sailing events are for men only, some are for women only, and some are for both men and women together.

Two person dinghy event

At the Olympics there are events in which one person sails alone, and other events for two sailors.

Sailing was an event at the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, then again in1908, and has been in every Olympics since then.

In yachting events, the yachts sail around a number of floating markers called buoys (say it like this: boyz). Yachts must sail around them in the correct order.

Each group of yachts sails in seven races. The six best scores of each yacht are added together to decide the winner in each group. The winner has the lowest score.
