Reptiles as pets

NOTE: All reptiles & amphibians are protected in Victoria and in other parts of Australia & cannot be collected from the wild without the appropriate permit.
However, there are many specialist pet shops that sell the kind of reptiles that you can keep as a pet. You will need a licence, and the shop will tell you how to get one.

Responsible pet ownership
Reptiles kept as pets depend on their owners for food, protection and shelter. Before becoming a pet owner think carefully about all the things you will have to do to care for your pet responsibly.
