Modern Pentathlon

There was a Pentathlon event in the ancient Olympic Games from 708 B.C. Athletes competed in 5 events: discus, javelin, long jump, a stadium-length race and wrestling.

In the modern Pentathlon, athletes known as 'pentathletes' complete 5 events on one day.

The athletes fence.

The athletes swim 200 metres.

Using an air pistol they shoot 20 times at a target 10 metres away.

 

 

They run 3,000 metres cross country.


The athletes ride a horse 600 metres cross country. There are 15 jumps that the horses and riders must go over.
