Maize, or corn, is the basis of Malawian diet.
A flour, called nsima, is made from the corn. Nsima is eaten with fish, chicken or other meat, but most often with locally grown fresh vegetables.
Long grain rice and dishes made with cassava flour are also eaten.
Tropical
fruits such as mango, banana, avocado and passionfruit are grown
and eaten in Malawi.

Locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables are available in markets in Malawi.
