Eating in Greece

Greeks eat a diet of grains in the form of bread (wholemeal or otherwise), pasta, couscous and rice.

Fruit and vegetables that are in-season are selected and cooked very simply. Dessert is generally fruit.

A wide variety of legumes and nuts, such as chickpeas, lentils, beans, pine kernels, almonds, hazelnuts, and walnuts are used in Greek cooking.

Olives are a major crop on farms in many parts of Greece. Olive oil is used for cooking. And olives are eaten raw.

Cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products are made from sheep and goats milk

Fish are caught in the seas and are an important part of a Greek menu.
