Being a good farmer.
The skills needed by a farmer will vary according to the type of farm. The farmer will need to know about the crops that are being grown or the animals being farmed. If crops are grown, the farmer will need to know about soils, fertilisers, seeds, the control of pests, and the growing cycle of the plants.
For a farm with animals, the farmer would need to know how to care for the animals, including what and how to feed them, about breeding and raising the young, and about diseases and pests that might be harmful to the animals. Farmers will need to know about farm machinery and tools appropriate to the type of farm.
Farmers must also know about managing the finances (about the money) of a farm and the marketing (selling) of the farm produce. Good farmers keep up-to-date with information about the latest farming techniques and scientific information about their particular kind of farm product.
