An A-Z of Reptiles in the Time of the
Dinosaurs

Millions of years ago, before there were people, giant reptiles lived on earth.

Some reptiles could fly.
Some reptiles lived in water.
Some lived on land and were called dinosaurs.

A-I

A is for allosaurus
(say a-low-saw-russ)

It was fierce.

It was a meat eater.

B is for Brachiosaurus (say brack-ee-oh-saw-russ)

Brachiosaurus ate plants.

Its front legs were longer than its back legs.

C is for Composognathus
(say comp-oh-sog-nath-us)

Composognathus was a very small dinosaur.

It was about the size of a chicken.

D is for Dimetrodon
(say die-meet-ruh-don)

Dimetrodon had a big sail on its back.

The sail helped keep the dinosaur warm.

E is for Elasmosaurus
(say ell-az-moe-saw-russ)

Elasmosaurus was not a dinosaur. It was a reptile that lived in the sea. It was the biggest swimming reptile. It had a long neck and flippers.

F is for Fabrosaurus (say fab-roe-saw-russ)

It was a small dinosaur.

It ate plants.

G is for Gallimimus
(say gal-im-im-uss)

It ran fast on its two back legs.

It had a beak.

H is for Hyaeosaurus (say high-lay-oh-saw-russ)

It had spikes on its back and tail.

It had a hard skin.

I is for Iguanadon
(say ig-wan-a-don)

Iguanodon walked on its back legs.

It ate plants.
