Help Us! Some Endangered Animals of the World
Step 1
Find out about what these words mean: use a dictionary to look
for themeanings or ask your teacher

Step 2
Form a group of 6. Each person in the group will find out about
a different endangered animal. Each animal comes from a different
place in the world.
Choose your animal from this list:

Find information to answer these questions about your chosen animal:
1. What does your chosen animal look like?
2. What country or countries does it live
in and what is its habitat?
3. What are some of its habits and behaviour?
4. What does it eat?
5. What is its life cycle?
6. What are the dangers for this animal
and why is it endangered?

Now you are an expert about your animal! You will now make an
illustrated book about your animal. You will need 8 sheets of paper. Write
only on one side of each sheet. The back of each page is where
you will illustrate.
Here's
how to set out your book.
Page 1
of the book will be the list
of contents, set out like this:

On page 2, draw a picture of the animal so that
we can clearly see what it looks like.
On page 3,
will write about what your
animal looks like. Describe its size and shape, its colour, its
covering and any other interesting things about how it looks.
On page 4, draw a picture of this animals (you can
draw more than one) in its wild habitat.
On page 5, write about its habitat and the countries
where the animal lives.
On page 6, write about its food and how it gets
it. Draw pictures of some of its food.
On page 7, write about some of the animals habits
or behaviour. Draw a picture to go with your sentences.
On page 8, draw a picture of the animal's babies.
On page 9, write about how the young animals are
born and grow.
On page 10, write about why this animal is endangered.
On page 11,
make a glossary. Write the
following words in alphabetical order and write a meaning for
each one. endangered,
vulnerable, extinct, habitat, life cycle, mammal, marsupial, reptile.
You can also add other words
you have used in the book.
Where you have spaces on the pages, you can draw other illustrations.
Make a cover for your book, with a title and your name as the
author and illustrator.
Step 6 Presentation
After you have written and illustrated your book, you are going
to pretend to be this animal. Talk to the class, telling them
about yourself and showing your book.

Do you think you did this project well? Print off a 'How did I
do?' page here, fill
it in and discuss it with your teacher.
