When all the animals of one kind are gone, they are extinct.

Extinct means gone forever.

Dinosaurs are extinct. They died because the places where they lived changed.
The weather changed but the dinosaurs could not change how they lived.

These are woolly mammoths.

They are extinct.

Some animals became extinct because their food was eaten by new animals.

People hunted and killed animals such as the dodo and the thylacine until they had all gone.

They are extinct.
