South Africa
The Republic of South Africa has borders with Botswana,
Lesotho,Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, and
Zimbabwe.

About 43 million people live in South Africa and they speak 11 different languages including Afrikaans, English, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, Swazi,Tsonga,Tswana, Venda, Xhosa and Zulu.

2 of the most important cities are Pretoria, which is the capital city, and CapeTown.

The head of state is the President.
The government is elected by the people at elections. People who are 18 years old and over can vote for the members of the parliament.

The weather in South Africa is mostly sunny with cool nights. Summer can very hot but it is cooler in the mountains. Winters are mild but there is sometimes snow in higher places.

The money used in South Africa is called the rand.


The flag of South Africa

This became the first flag of a united South Africa in April 1994, at the time the country held its first democratic elections and Nelson Mandela became President. The green 'Y' can be seen as the coming together of the different races of people in South Africa, joining together to take the road ahead together.

South African farmers grow corn, wheat, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables, beef, poultry, mutton, wool, and dairy products.

There are gold and diamond mines in South Africa.
Other industries include: automobile assembly, metalworking, building machinery, making textiles, iron and steel, chemicals, fertilizer, and making foodstuffs.
South Africa exports (sells goods it makes) to the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Italy.
