A Visit to Southwest United States
The United States of America, also known as the USA or the U.S, or simply as America, is situated on the continent of North America. Canada is north of the US and Mexico is south. Further south still is the continent of South America.

Alaska and Hawaii are also American states, but they are not part of the mainland. Alaska is further north, attached to Canada, and Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean. You can find them on a world map.
The original inhabitants of the continent have lived there for thousands of years. Of Asian origin, they were known as Indians, or, in Alaska, as Eskimos. The Native Americans generally refer to themselves as American Indians or Indians. The Indian nations consist of groups called tribes.

Shirley@kidcyber visited some of the southwestern states. She kept a diary of her adventures and wrote about some of the information she found out. She travelled in a loop from Monterey, California across the state of Nevada into Utah, then south into the states of New Mexico and Arizona and back into California again. Part of the journey went into areas of the Navajo Nation, which overlaps into four states.
Here is a map showing the location of the Navajo Nation: http://www.navajobusiness.com/fastFacts/LocationMap.htm
