Blue Mountains Tree Frog

These frogs live in the rocks near creeks in mountains.

They eat insects.

They have colourful skin.

 

This beautiful amphibian is found in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales and the Great Dividing Range of eastern Victoria.

 

Its habitat is among rocks in small creeks of the mountain forests. Tree frogs eat insects.

The frog is about 5 cm long, a light brown with a white belly. The tree frog is covered with skin.It has bright green patches on the head, and a dark and a light stripe along each side. On the arms and legs there are bright green and orange patches.

The toes of tree frogs are not as webbed as those of other frogs, but they are still strong swimmers. They are also strong jumpers.

The Blue Mountains tree frog breeds from September (spring) to January (summer). The female lays up to 1000 eggs on the bottom of a rock pool. Little black tadpoles with tiny golden flecks hatch out of the eggs. It is about 3 months before they become frogs.
