Argentina is in South America. It has borders with these South American countries: Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile. The Argentine Republic is the second largest country in South America, after Brazil. Nearly 41 million people live in Argentina.

The capital city is Buenos Aires. It is also the largest city in Argentina.

The people of Argentina speak Spanish.

When do children go to school?
Argentina's children start school when they are 5 years old and must stay in school until they are 17. There are also kindergartens and many universities.

What churches are there?
Most Argentines are Romas Catholics. There other Christian religions as well as Jewish synogogues and mosques for Muslims.

The President is the head of the government, and the head of state. At this time the President is
Cristina Elisabet Fernández Wilhelm de Kirchner. She was elected by voters in 2007.

What do farmers in Argentina grow?
Cattle, chickens, sheep and goats are all grown on farms to be sold as meat. Farmers also grow wheat, rice, cotton, vegetables, and fruits such as oranges, lemons and limes, peaches and nectarines, and grapefruit.

What do the Argentinians eat?
Beef is the national dish of Argentina, but Argentines eat a wide variety of foods. National dishes include include empanadas, (stuffed pastry, like little meat pies); locro, (a mixture of corn, beans, meat, bacon, onion, and gourd); and chorizo,(a spicy sausage).
Grapes are grown and made into wine.

What wild animals are there in Agentina?
There are capybara, puma, and other kinds of wildcats such as the jaguar and the cougar. Also cavy, armadillo, otter, weasel, deer and foxes. There are many frogs, lizards, snakes, turtles, and crocodiles.

Some birds found in Argentina are hummingbirds, flamingos, toucans,
and parrots.

What sports do Argentinians enjoy?
Soccer is the most popular sport in Argentina. The Argentine national soccer team has won the FIFA World Cup Championship twice. Volleyball, basketball, rugby, tennis and hockey are also popular.

Argentina and the Olympics in 2004
Argentina's soccer team and the national basketball team won Olympic Gold medals at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Athletes also won bronze medals for hockey, swimming, tennis and sailing.
