Antarctic Exploration:
James Cook
On
17 January
1773 Captain James Cook was the first person to cross the Antarctic
circle. He sailed around the continent, at one time getting less
than 150kms from the coast. Thick pack ice prevented him from
sailing closer. However, he did not once see land.
