M is for Meerkat

Meerkats are small animals that live in Africa.

They are not cats!

They have pointy faces and dark fur around their eyes.

They have long tails.

They run on all four legs, but can stand on their back legs.

Meerkats live in big groups.

They dig tunnels in the ground.

In the daytime, meerkats dig for food.

They eat bugs, caterpillars, small birds and roots.

One meerkat keeps a lookout for danger.

They take turns to be lookout.

When there are babies, the whole group helps look after them.
