H is for Hippopotamus

A hippopotamus lives on land and in the water.

They stay in the water in the hot daytime.

Sometimes they come out of the water to sleep in the sunshine.

At night when it is cool they come out of the water to eat plants.


A baby hippo is called a calf.
Its mother is a cow and its father is a bull.









A hippo has a very big mouth and teeth.

It is a very fierce animal.
